Unexpected and Urgent Needs
Since 2010, SeaStar Kids has focused its efforts on blessing the lives of disadvantaged Ukrainian children as well as supporting the areas in which they live. But since 2022, new and ever-changing challenges have sharpened our focus in ways we would never have imagined.
With the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine 2-1/2 years ago, millions of families have been uprooted and separated, homes have been destroyed, and former livelihoods have vanished. Fathers have become soldiers while mothers and children have either relocated to different regions of Ukraine or fled to the safety of Romania, Poland or other points beyond. Still other families -- unable to provide food or shelter to their children -- have placed them temporarily in orphanages
And now, with 2024 almost behind us, we are confronted with a new and pressing need -- mental health supports for children and families. According to experts in the field, more than 90% of displaced Ukrainian children are suffering from some form of PTSD or anxiety--conditions that could affect their long-term health unless addressed. To truly watch over these children living through unimaginable circumstances, we must meet them where they are -- and THE GALAXY CENTER is the answer. Check out our website, www.seastarkids.org to learn more about the trauma and counseling services planned for early 2025.
Your compassion and generosity is allowing us to meet some of the immediate needs of Ukrainian children and families, and we look forward to the day -- very soon -- when we can gather our SeaStar Kids and Starkeepers again at Summer Camp in a peaceful Ukraine.
